FAQ

  • Do not swim while it is above the target.
  • Remove or close the floating dispenser/feeder, and remove any excess pellets.
  • Ventilate: lid open + jets running to accelerate dissipation.
  • Exposure to light: leave uncovered (if possible) — chlorine drops faster than bromine.
  • Dilution: Partial draining (10–30%) + filling with clean water, retest.
  • Neutralizer (quick option, especially for chlorine): Use a sodium thiosulfate-based reducer, dose in small steps, retesting each time.
  • Resume swimming when you are at 3–5 ppm (chlorine) or 3– ppm (bromine).
  • Aim for the targets: 3–5 ppm (chlorine) or 3–5 ppm (bromine).
  • Chlorine (granules): add a small dose, let it stir for 10–15 min, retest.
  • Quick rule: 3g of granular chlorine per 1000L = +1 ppm.
  • Bromine or chlorine (tablets): put tablets in a floating dispenser and adjust the opening (more open = more bromine/chlorine).
  • Common start: 2–4 tablets / 1000–1500 L, then adjust after 48 h according to reading.
  • After heavy use: do a shock treatment
  • Chlorine program: granular chlorine
  • Bromine program: chlorine-free oxidant to activate bromine.
  • Temperature & pH: Bromine remains effective at higher pH and in very hot water (typical of spas). Chlorine is more sensitive to pH and high temperature.
  • Odors: Chlorine forms chloramines (“swimming pool” smell); bromine forms bromamines, which are less odorous but still active.
  • Sun & Stabilizer: Chlorine can be stabilized (cyanuric acid/CYA) with dichlorine; bromine is not and degrades faster in the sun (less of an issue under cover).
  • Cost & Feel: Bromine is often more expensive, but appreciated for its comfort (mild odor, stability). Chlorine is economical and powerful, but requires stricter pH/CYA management.
  • Never mix tablets/dry products in the same dispenser — risk of dangerous reaction.
  • If you are switching from chlorine to bromine, ideally drain/rinse the spa and the dosing unit.
  • If you are switching from bromine → chlorine, a complete drain is strongly recommended, as bromine residue can convert chlorine to active bromine.
  • Use only one program at a time (chlorine or bromine).

Chlorine comes in tablets or granules.

- Lozenges: preferably placed in a floating dispenser (or directly in the water if the manufacturer allows it). Allow approximately 1 lozenge per day, and less if you accompany your routine with a shock treatment. For slow-dissolving lozenges, plan on 3 to 5 lozenges per week in a floater, and less with a shock treatment.

- Granules: add once a day, unless accompanied by a shock treatment, which helps the chlorine level to be maintained for longer.

These amounts are averages: actual use of your spa may vary requirements, but they give a good idea to start with.
