In a spa, water quality is even more sensitive than in a swimming pool, as the high temperature promotes bacterial growth. When testing, be sure to check:

pH: ideally between 7.2 and 7.6 to guarantee comfort and product effectiveness.

Disinfectant (chlorine, bromine or active oxygen): essential for eliminating bacteria and impurities.

Alkalinity (TAC): stabilizes the pH and should remain within the recommended range.

Water hardness (TH): important to avoid corrosion or limescale deposits.

Careful monitoring of these parameters will allow you to maintain clear and pleasant water, while extending the life of your spa.

To read the spa test strips, simply immerse the strip in water for 5 seconds, then remove it without shaking. Wait approximately 10 seconds for the colors to stabilize, then compare each colored square with the scale provided on the bottle. Each color corresponds to a specific value (chlorine or bromine, pH, alkalinity). Be sure to read the results in good lighting and within the indicated time frame to obtain an accurate reading.

Next, compare the square corresponding to the pH to the scale on the container. The ideal pH for a spa is between 7.2 and 7.6. Avoid touching the squares with your fingers, as this can distort the reading.

If chlorine doesn't show up on the test strips, it's often because there's simply no more free (active) chlorine in the water. This happens when the water has a high chlorine demand (many impurities), or if the pH is very high, making the chlorine less effective. It could also be due to a reaction time that's too short: wait the indicated time before reading the color. In some cases, chlorine can be quickly "burned off" by water that's too hot or prolonged exposure to sunlight. In this case, a shock treatment is recommended to restore the level.
