How to Properly Measure Your Hot Tub to Choose the Right Replacement Cover When it’s time to replace your hot tub cover, taking accurate measurements is essential to ensure a perfect fit. Here’s a simple, step-by-step guide to measuring your hot tub like a pro — and making the right choice the first time. Why Are Accurate Measurements So Important? A spa cover that doesn’t fit properly can allow heat to escape, increasing your energy costs. Moreover, a poor fit can lead to moisture buildup, mold growth, or premature wear of the insulation. Step 1: Measure the Outside Dimensions Using a rigid tape measure, measure the outer dimensions of your spa from edge to edge, in inches. Always measure at the widest point, including the spa’s rim (but not any jets or accessories that stick out). Key Measurements to Take: Length (L): the longest side of the spa Width (W): the side perpendicular to the length Corner radius: the distance between the corner of an imaginary right angle and where the curve of the spa begins (see step 2) Step 2: Measure the Radius of Rounded Corners This step is essential to ensure your new cover fits perfectly. Use a square or two rigid rulers to form a 90-degree angle above one of the spa’s rounded corners. Then, measure the distance from the intersection of the rulers to the point where the curve of the corner begins. This measurement, in inches, is the corner radius, and it helps customize the shape of your new cover.
