Why Is Filter Size Important?

A filter that’s too small will constantly be overloaded, resulting in cloudy water, algae buildup, and premature wear on your system. On the other hand, a well-sized filter offers better filtration performance, reduces backwash frequency, and extends equipment life.

Recommended Filter Size by Pool Volume

For Above-Ground Pools
Pool Type Pool Size (Liters) Minimum Filter Size
Above-ground 15' Round (21,600 liters) 19"
Above-ground 18' Round (31,200 liters) 19"
Above-ground 21' Round (42,400 liters) 21"
Above-ground 24' Round (55,200 liters) 21"
Above-ground 27' Round (70,000 liters) 24"
Above-ground 30' Round (86,400 liters) 24"

For In-Ground Pools
Pool Type Pool Size (Liters) Minimum Filter Size
In-ground 12' x 24' (32,628 liters) 19"
In-ground 14' x 28' (44,391 liters) 21"
In-ground 16' x 32' (58,003 liters) 24"
In-ground 18' x 36' (73,487 liters) 24"
In-ground 20' x 40' (90,847 liters) 25"

Optimal Filtration Performance

With a filtration area of 0.22 m² and a flow rate of up to 10.8 m³/h , the P500 is perfect for medium to large pools. Its 85 kg sand bed effectively traps impurities, providing crystal clear water with minimal maintenance.

Simple Use and Easy Maintenance

  • Built-in pressure gauge : Allows you to monitor internal pressure. A normal pressure of 80 kPa (12 psi) indicates a clean filter. When it reaches 140 kPa (20 psi), it is time to backwash .

  • Backwash : Clean the filter easily by stopping the pump, turning the valve handle to “BACKWASH” and restarting the pump for at least 2 minutes , until the water runs clear.

  • Rinsing : Before resuming filtration, a rinse cycle of at least 1 minute prevents cloudy water from returning to the pool.

Practical Multiport Valve

The valve mounted on top of the filter offers several positions (filtration, backwash, rinse, waste, etc.) for complete control of the system , with ease.

Directions for use

  • Always stop the pump before changing the valve position.

  • Clean the pump and skimmer baskets regularly for maximum efficiency.

Technical specifications

  • Tank diameter : 527 mm

  • Total height : 845 mm

  • Valve connection : 1 ½"

  • Maximum operating pressure : 200 kPa (29 psi)

  • Maximum temperature : 40°C (104°F)

To ensure clear water and optimal performance of your filtration system, regular maintenance of your sand filter is essential. Here are the recommended steps:

1. Backwash
To remove impurities accumulated in the filter sand, backwash every two weeks during the swimming season. This cleans the filter media by reversing the direction of water flow, thus preventing clogging of the system.

2. Rinse after backwash
Once the backwash is complete, perform a short rinse cycle (approximately 30 seconds to 1 minute) to replace the sand correctly and flush out any remaining residue.

3. Replacing the filter media
Filter sand or glass loses its effectiveness over time. It is recommended to replace the filter media every 5 to 7 years, depending on usage and water quality. Worn filter media can reduce flow rate, decrease water clarity, and overload the pump.

Tip: If you use filter glass instead of traditional sand, you can benefit from finer filtration, less frequent backwashing, and extended media life.

1-year limited warranty
