Important tips before installing the liner

  • Ensure that the pool bottom is level over its entire surface.
  • Redo or correct the cove around the base of the wall to avoid overly sharp angles.
  • Add a thin layer of rock dust or sand as needed to compensate for settling caused by the old liner and the weight of the water.
  • Remove all rocks, roots, debris, or sharp objects that could damage the liner.
  • Thoroughly compact and smooth the surface before installation.
  • Ensure that the pool wall is straight, stable, and without inward bulges.
  • Check the condition of the track, joints, screws, and components before starting.
  • Install the liner in mild weather, ideally when it is more flexible. A liner that is too cold may be more difficult to handle.
  • Do not pull too hard on the liner initially. It should gradually settle with the addition of water.
  • Begin filling slowly and adjust the liner as you go to avoid wrinkles.
  • Check that the liner is centered before there is too much water in the pool.
  • Never cut the skimmer and return openings until the water level is near these parts and the liner is properly in place.

Maintenance Guide – Vinyl Liners and Reinforced Membranes

Water quality is essential to preserve your liner or membrane. Water must comply with current standards and be free of heavy metals (iron, copper, manganese), especially if it comes from a well, to avoid discoloration.

The pH must be maintained between 7.2 and 7.6, and it is also important to monitor alkalinity, hardness, and stabilizer. Improper balancing can damage the liner, reduce chlorine effectiveness, and promote wrinkles.

For cleaning, avoid abrasive brushes and corrosive products. Use only products suitable for the type of covering (vinyl or membrane). Improper maintenance may void the warranty.

Regarding chlorine, granular chlorine should always be diluted in water before being added to the pool. Tablets should be used in a floating dispenser or chlorinator. With a salt system, adhere to recommended levels to avoid discoloration and premature wear.

Before closing, thoroughly clean the pool and ensure good chemical circulation. Use a protective cover to limit debris and prevent stains.

Adhering to maintenance parameters is essential to preserve the liner and maintain warranty validity.

FAQ

To repair a pool liner, use a repair kit designed for vinyl. First, clean the area around the hole or tear, then apply a self-adhesive patch or piece of vinyl with the provided adhesive. Most repairs can be done directly in the water, as long as the surface is clean. For larger tears, a larger patch or an exterior and interior repair may be necessary. If the liner is very old, brittle, or has multiple tears, it is often more economical and safer to replace it completely.

To remove wrinkles from a pool liner, the best method is to let the water do the work. Fill the pool slowly and, as the water level rises, use your feet or a soft brush to push the wrinkles toward the walls. The water exerts even pressure, which helps the liner stretch naturally. It's important to do this step while filling the pool because once it's full, the wrinkles become much harder to correct. If the wrinkles are significant or persistent, it may be necessary to partially drain the pool to readjust the liner properly.

To install a new above-ground pool liner, start by completely draining the pool and removing the old liner. Then, check the condition of the bottom, underlay, and walls, and make any necessary repairs. Lay the new liner down the center of the pool, secure it to the top of the wall, and gently adjust it, smoothing out any wrinkles. Fill the pool slowly, adjusting the liner as the water level rises to ensure a taut installation. Proper preparation and gradual filling are essential to prevent wrinkles and extend the liner's lifespan.

To prolong the life of a pool liner, it is essential to maintain well-balanced water at all times. Stable chemistry prevents premature wear of the vinyl, avoids wrinkles, and protects both the color and the flexibility of the material.

Choose a mild, sunny day with little wind, and the vinyl should be around 20–27 °C (late spring or summer). At this time, the vinyl will be flexible and stretch without cracking.

Highly recommended (though not mandatory):

  • Cushion against pebbles/irregularities,
  • Less abrasion, therefore greater longevity.
  • Cleaner installation (smooth surface)
  • A slight increase in warmth and comfort underfoot.

A darker pattern absorbs more radiation and can provide a perceived temperature increase of 1–2 °C under good sunlight conditions. However, it may show more marks (limescale, scratches) and make folds more visible in raking light.

On average, 8 to 12 years depending on UV exposure, water chemistry (pH/alkalinity), winterization, and usage. Poorly balanced water or direct sunlight without cover accelerates aging.

  • Overlap: the excess liner extends beyond the top of the wall and is secured with coping stones. Versatile and economical.
  • U-bead: the liner has a J-shaped profile that clips directly onto the top of the wall (can often be converted to beaded). Practical if you don't have a beaded rail.
