Priming your in-ground pool pump

When starting up your pool pump after winter or after you turn it off to clean the pool pump strainer basket or filter, the pump might need a bit of priming.

Never let the pump run dry, as running a pump with no water can damage the pump and the motor. If the pump is leaking water and sucking in air, remove the pump lid, fill the pump strainer box with water, put the lid back on and restart the motor.
