What type of filter is best suited for my pool?
The choice between a sand filter and a cartridge filter depends on the size of your pool, your maintenance needs, and your budget. Sand filters are better suited for larger pools or frequent use, while cartridge filters are often chosen for smaller pools and for those who prefer finer filtration. Additionally, cartridge filters use less water for maintenance since there’s no need for a "backwash," unlike sand filters. This can be an ecological and economical advantage if you want to limit your water consumption and chemical costs.
How does a cartridge filter work?
A cartridge filter works by passing water through a filter cartridge that captures impurities and debris. With a filtration capacity of 10 to 20 microns, it provides crystal-clear water by trapping even small particles. The cartridges are reusable and easy to clean, making them a practical and cost-effective option for pools. Moreover, cartridge filters don’t require backwashing, which saves water and makes maintenance simpler.
How to properly maintain the cartridge of your filter?
Cartridges can be rinsed every month and cleaned as needed with a specific product. It’s recommended to clean the cartridge at the end of the season, along with closing the pool, or as needed during the season. It should be replaced every 1 to 2 years, depending on its condition. If the cartridge becomes too clogged or damaged, it will need to be replaced to maintain efficient filtration.
How to install a cartridge filter?
Installing a cartridge filter on an above-ground or in-ground pool is quite simple to do yourself. The filter should be installed after the pump and before the pool. If you have additional equipment, such as a heat pump, the filter should be placed before the heat pump in the system. Next, you need to connect the pipes by linking the inlet pipe (pump) to the filter’s inlet and the filter’s outlet to the return pipe going to the pool/equipment. It’s important to check all the connections to make sure they’re properly tightened to avoid leaks. Finally, once the installation is complete, turn on the pump and check that the water is circulating correctly.
